Spanish police had been lent an unexpected hand in a drug raid in the province of Barcelona following a helicopter camera filming the Vuelta a Espana cycling race alerted officers to two rooftop marijuana plantations.

Officers seized 40 cannabis plants on Tuesday in the town of Igualada following getting alerted to the plantations due to videos from final Saturday’s stage eight which had been posted on social media, a spokeswoman told Reuters.

The pictures displaying the plants had been taken from a helicopter camera as the riders approached the finish line in Igualada, positioned 65 kilometres outdoors of Barcelona.
