Alyssa Thomas made 10 of 12 field-goal attempts and scored a game-high 21 points Monday night as the Connecticut Sun defeated the Atlanta Dream in a 93-82 win in Bradenton, Fla.

Three other players scored in double figures for Connecticut (2-6), which canned 46.8 percent from the field and controlled the glass 36-31. Jasmine Thomas added 15 points and seven assists. DeWanna Bonner chipped in 12 points, nine rebounds and four assists, and Brionna Jones hit for 11 points.

Shekinna Stricklen went 6 of 8 from the 3-point arc and scored 18 points for Atlanta (2-6) while Kalani Brown and Courtney Williams came off the bench to tally 13 and 12, respectively. But the Dream’s backcourt of Betnijah Laney and rookie Chennedy Carter combined for just three points after entering the game averaging 37 between them. Carter played just over three minutes before leaving with an injury.

Leading by 10 points at halftime, the Sun put Atlanta away in the third quarter, using a 21-7 burst to start the period and establish a 77-53 lead on Jasmine Thomas’ driving layup with 2:59 remaining.

The margin grew to 25 points on two occasions in the fourth period before the Dream made the final score look more respectable by scoring the game’s last 14 points.

Neither team mixed in much defense in a first half that featured a combined 102 points. Stricklen canned four 3-pointers in the game’s first 3:51 for a 14-11 Atlanta advantage, but Connecticut fought back to take a 26-25 edge after a quarter when Bria Holmes canned a 3-pointer off a Thomas assist.

The Sun took charge early in the second quarter, shortly after Stricklen’s fifth trey evened the game at 28. Connecticut ripped off an 11-2 burst for a nine-point advantage after two foul shots by Thomas with 7:19 remaining.

Alyssa Thomas’ mid-range jumper at the 4:24 mark gave the Sun a 47-35 cushion, and it stayed in that range for the half’s remainder. Connecticut got 13 points from each Thomas in building a 56-46 lead at intermission.
