Peoria Council approves another cannabis dispensary

PEORIA (WEEK) – An adult-use, recreational cannabis dispensary could be coming to Peoria.

This new location is less than two miles away from another dispensary.

Tuesday, Peoria City Council gave a cannabis company 90 days to move into a spot in the University Square Shopping Center. If the company does not go in within that period, the special use expires.

It was approved in a 9 to 1 vote, with council member Beth Jensen voting no. Jensen asked for more information or an additional policy meeting to discuss licensing and the location.

“Whether we need a cap, or distance limitations because I do have concerns about having too many of these facilities and having too many in one area in our city,” Jensen said.

Council lawyer Chrissie Peterson agreed to provide the council with additional information. If they so choose, they can move forward with another policy meeting.
